After 28 years, Capcom still won’t tell us if Leon and Ada are together — that’s ridiculous

As a loyal fan of the Resident Evil series, I simply cannot resist taking a dig at Capcom: after all these years, just how much longer are you going to keep us hanging? How much longer do you intend to keep Leon and Ada entangled? Ever since their first encounter in Raccoon City in 1998, Leon and Ada’ s fated entanglement has captured the hearts of countless players. They have saved and cared for one another, yet have always remained separated by a thin veil of ambiguity, teetering on the edge of a relationship for over two decades. Even the Titanic went from sinking, being found, and becoming a tourist attraction, it didn’t take Leon and Ada to confirm a relationship for so long!

On 27 February 2026, Resident Evil Requiem was officially released worldwide. As a major instalment marking the series’ 30th anniversary, it took the gaming community by storm upon launch, with its popularity showing no signs of waning; the game’s peak concurrent players on Steam on its first day immediately surpassed the series’ all-time high. Amidst the game’ s massive success, one of the topics generating the most discussion among players was the inconspicuous ring on Leon’s left ring finger during the closing cutscene. That plain, unadorned band—so simple it could almost be overlooked—instantly sent the entire online Resident Evil fanbase into a frenzy, with related topics flooding forums and social media platforms.

“The answer will become clear some day, but not just yet,” Nakanishi told Eurogamer.

“What we wanted to convey in the final scene is simple: Leon now has a ‘place to go home to’, and we hope you can imagine the peaceful moments he spends there.

All these years, fans have been shipping them to the bitter end, replaying their iconic romantic moments over and over, and speculating endlessly about their ultimate fate. Yet Capcom has consistently strung us along, keeping the suspense alive and refusing to officially confirm whether the two are actually together. They could easily have provided a clear resolution, yet they’ve chosen to emulate those soap operas that drag on for ten seasons without a single confession, treating players’ patience as an endless resource to be drained.

The ring that appeared at the end of ‘Resident Evil: Requiem’ has sent everyone into a frenzy of speculation once again: was it for himself, or for Ada? Is it a hint that they’ve finally tied the knot, or just another red herring? According to the official canon, Ada is 52 this year, whilst Leon is 49 – if they don’t clarify their relationship soon, they’ll both be old! Fans have watched Leon transform from a green, rookie cop into a weathered, seasoned agent, whilst Ada’s identity has undergone countless twists and turns. Yet their relationship alone seems to have been put on hold. So, Capcom, stop playing games. Give Leon and Ada a happy ending, and give all the fans who’ve been rooting for them all these years the closure they deserve!
