The level of fan obsession is only escalating.
Some obsessions are minimal. Maybe your entire social media feed is filled with it. While concerning, that’s relatively harmless. Sometimes, obsession means real people and real consequences. People seem to be forgetting that.
The Fremantle Dockers just made it to the AFL Grand Finals, for the first time since 2013. Dockers fans flooded the streets in celebration.

If you love the Dockers, then celebrate. But don’t allow either your emotions to cloud your judgement so much you hurt people.

The invasiveness has been a long-time issue. Back in July, Williams had to repeatedly ask people to leave after they followed him to his residence.
A celebrity is not obliged to accommodate obsessive, disrespectful fans. The streets should not have to suffer when sports fans go feral. Every time fans go too far, we let accountability fall and allow this behaviour to become normalised.
I think people deserve to enjoy what they love. I don’t think other people deserve to be negatively impacted because of it. Being a fan does not give you permission to ignore the rules of basic human decency.
But people deserve entertainment! you whine.
Exactly. These interests are meant to be fun entertainment. They shouldn’t lead to danger. That should be obvious. The harmful obsessions need to stop. Fans need to recognise when this behaviour is weird and unhealthy instead of failing to see real people and real impacts.
Don’t punch your mate because his team won. And maybe consider taking down that celebrity shrine in your room.
