Everyone is saying Elizabeth Holmes looks creepy. I think she looks amazing.

They’re saying she’s creepy, her eyes look weird, her gaze is weird. I couldn’t disagree more. But that’s what’s being said about Theranos founder Elizabeth Holmes online recently, in reaction to Nathan Fielder and Lance Oppenheim’s first You Can See Everything documentary teaser. Why isn’t anyone talking about how amazing she looks? She’s never looked better.
Her eyes look great. Some might even say she looks cute.

Maybe I’m missing something… maybe.

I found this phenomenon particularly disturbing.

I wanted an explanation. I needed an answer.

Why was everyone having this reaction except me?

Why isn’t Elizabeth Holmes creepy?

As a viewer, I was too detached. I needed a different perspective. I knew I had to put myself in Nathan’s shoes. His feet aren’t visible in the teaser… but I know he wears New Balance. Unable to get to Elizabeth, I had to get Elizabeth to me. The plan? Stage the normal human interaction inside my house, creating an accurate replica of Elizabeth’s loungeroom, but more importantly Elizabeth. The process will then allow me to see exactly what it is that others see. It’s the only thing that made sense.

After a week of planning, I reconstructed Elizabeth’s loungeroom faithfully, allowing me to have a meaningful interview without failure. Finally, I met Liz face to face. We were together for roughly three hours and at times I felt as though the mask had finally slipped. This profound experience led me to question myself. Am I a little bit off… or is it society?
It still wasn’t clocking to me.

I wasn’t terrified, I was mesmerised. Liz still looked amazing. Her big blue eyes weren’t even remotely creepy. Perhaps it was the editing or the score that really affected people? Maybe it was the lighting. All I know is that I don’t have a negative emotional reaction seeing Liz.

Even with careful planning, it doesn’t always go as expected. You don’t have to agree with my response, but perhaps another perspective is worth considering; you might actually see something amazing.

You may ask yourself, did this really happen? Is this guy being real?
Why would I deceive you?
I’m always being real.
