Influencers Have Made Ordinary Life Feel Like Failure

Browse social media five minutes and one thing is apparent: normal life is no longer satisfactory.

All around you can see influencers traveling the globe, sitting in an upscale cafe, purchasing costly items, and leading a seemingly ideal life. These lifestyles are so regularly brought out to the extent that it starts to become normal- even standard. And therein the issue starts. The fact is that, these are not ordinary lives. They are well nurtured highlights. According to Forbes, influencers tend to make their image based on the aspirational content that can captivate and appeal to follow. The only thing that we see is the greatest, most filtered version of life. The hardships, failures and normalcy are just cut out.

However, with continual exposure perception alters. A normal day–study, work, sleep- even gets to be boring, disappointing. Individuals start comparing their lives with the unrealistic criteria. Success no more is a question of stability or growth, but of visibility, aesthetics and incessant excitement. Even little milestones begin to feel trifling in opposition with the overstated milestones we encounter on the Internet. This is enhanced by the social media such as Instagram.

Their algorithms give preference to content that appears to be impressive, dramatic or luxurious. Consequently, the influencers are prompted to share the most fantastic experiences. The less realistic the lifestyle, the more interaction it gets and a cycle begins to diminish the content even more towards reality.

This puts a pressure in silence. Unless you are on the road, accomplishing something significant or constantly bettering yourself, then it seems like you are lagging. Even rest comes to be an element of laziness. Although normal life begins to be considered a failure.

However, the truth is much simpler. Majority of the population are leading a normal life- and there is nothing wrong with that. Appreciation, normalcy and minor successes are not the indications of failure. In fact, they are what real life is like, although this is not often depicted on the Internet.

It is not a problem that there are influencers. It is that their way of life has become a normalized way of life that anything short of that becomes unsatisfactory.

And time to wonder whether or not.

Since everybody is living an extraordinary life online then there is a possibility that what we are actually witnessing is not really reality at all- it is performance.
