Robots at the Spring Festival Gala: Tech Triumph or Cultural Anxiety?

The 2026 CCTV Spring Festival Gala surprised all of the people when robots came on the stage. These humanoid robots were made by Chinese companies such as Magic Atom, Galaxy General and Songyan Dynamics. They performed kung fu, yangge dance and other surprised moves. One program called WuBot showed robots doing martial arts. The videos quickly went through online. Some international media like Reuters and Global Times reported on the event, saying it was a sign of China’s strong robot industry. (youtube.com)

In my opinion I think the robots were amazing to watch but I felt something was missing. The Spring Gala main theme is about reunion and shared our identity. Robots can copy human actions, but they cannot replace human emotion. If machines take over the stage, the Gala may lose its most important thing.

This raises a bigger question: should cultural events focus more on innovation or tradition? I believe the answer is always has two sides. Technology can enrich performance, but it should not replace human artistic quality. Also, robots can join the Gala, but they should be supporting actors but not become the main stars.

My opinion is very clear: robots on the Gala are showing technological power, but they also bring some cultural worries. The Gala is usually about family, tradition and human feelings. Robots can move well, but they cannot show their emotion. The Gala should be about people, not only machines.

There are good sides. The show made people see how far China has come in AI and robotics. It may attract young audiences and make them proud of national progress. It also shows that robots can be part of cultural events not just only factories. This is moving for many viewers.

But there are also problems. If the Gala uses too much technology, traditional culture may be lost. The emotional link between the show and the audience may become weaker. People may feel amazed but not touched. The Gala is supposed to make us feel warm and connected, especially during the New Year. Robots is just robot cannot give us emotional feelings.

The robot show at the 2026 Chinese Spring Gala was a new thing. It showed China’s technology, but it also made people ask if culture is being lost. My hot topic: robots can join the Gala, but they should not replace human emotion.
