I fear the title of this blog post is a bit ostentatious for the contents; however, I hope you read on. I could rattle on about the future being bleak with climate change and pollution and big massive data centres destroying our drinking water, but I won’t, or maybe I will.
There is no secret that we’re facing some real environmental constraints at the moment and you have more than likely seen hundreds of videos with a black and white filter and sad, single chord backing music showing things like landfill in local lakes or large industrial areas bellowing smoke, I know personally it can all seem like too much. Where do you start? How are you supposed to change it all? Is one person’s efforts really going to change the global outcome of Planet Earth?
The answer is: probably not. However, a bunch of people doing one small thing every week or once a day just might.
Here is the part where people stop reading, bear with me a minute, and you might find some of this stuff useful. For 8 years now, I have peacefully and quietly lived a plant-based lifestyle – and I find this is the key. As soon as I begin talking about what I eat or how I feel morally, I know I have lost people. I have always wondered why this may be. See, people can spend hours researching ancient Roman history or watching documentaries on evolution, however, they aren’t willing to discuss an underlying message in these spaces, that message is – we weren’t made to eat animal products every single meal of every single day.
Let’s start with the Roman gladiators, scientific studies, and medical health records show they ate a vegetarian diet consisting mostly of barley and legumes. This is because plants contain far greater levels of strontium than animal tissues, supporting their rigorous training and strengthening bone density to reduce injuries and fractures during combat.
We can follow on with our ancestral pathways, such as the cavemen and the First Nations people. Animal products were far and few in between, often a celebratory meal when they finally did manage to catch and kill their prey, not scrambled on toast and pan-fried for breakfast every single day.

We back meal upon meal around what protein we will match with it; however, some of our most celebrated and sought-after role models live a plant-based lifestyle. I digress, I am not asking you to change completely or start washing your hair with apple cider vinegar and refusing deodorant. I am, however, suggesting just once a week, or a month, try a meatless meal. Or pick a meal of the day to be plant-based. The personal and environmental benefits the world could achieve from something as simple as one meal might even just change the world.
Here are some great plant-based recipes to try!
