I Binged Black Rabbit on an 8 Hour Flight and Here’s the Lowdown on Netflix’s New Crime Thriller

A dark, addictive new series where Jude Law and Jason Bateman shine as brothers caught between loyalty and betrayal.

Some series are perfect for long-haul flights and Black Rabbit is exactly that. On my eight hour journey from Tokyo to Melbourne, I pressed play out of curiosity and ended up glued to the screen until the credits rolled. With a layered plot, family drama and a storyline that keeps you guessing, this new Netflix thriller is hard to look away from.

Plot: Brothers, Betrayal and Secrets

At its core, Black Rabbit is about two estranged brothers, Jake (Jude Law) and Vince (Jason Bateman), whose lives collide in New York’s dark underworld. The story jumps between past and present, each flashback dropping secrets that make the brother’s reunion even more dangerous. Jake is a polished restaurateur trying to maintain control, while Vince is a gambler drowning in debts and shady deals. As the past catches up to them, their uneasy alliance forces both men into a world of betrayal and crime and tests their loyalty along the way.

Law and Bateman, a Perfect Pairing

Law, fresh off the series The Order (2024), and Bateman well known for his iconic rule in Netflix’s Ozark (2017-2022) feel like a natural pairing. Both are coming straight from acclaimed crime thrillers, so casting them as complicated brothers makes perfect sense. Law brings intensity and restraint to the character of Jake, while Bateman leans into his signature charisma and sharp wit as Vince. Together, their chemistry anchors the show, making every twist and turn compelling and emotionally charged.

This series thrives on unpredictability. Every time you think you’ve got the story pinned down, a flashback reframes the past and flips the present. Relationships fracture, secrets unravel, and the characterisation runs deep. The plot sometimes stretches reality too far from belief, but the tension and surprises make it a thrilling experience from start to finish.

My Verdict

Rotten Tomatoes currently ranks Black Rabbit at 63 percent, with critics split between its gritty brilliance and dramatic intensity. My take? It’s layered, visually entertaining and consistently engaging, with Law’s and Bateman’s performances elevating it well beyond traditional crime clichés.

I personally give it 4 stars out of 5.

If you are looking for a Netflix series that mixes grit, suspense and star power, Black Rabbit is worth a watch. Buckle up and enjoy the ride.
