As the screen began to widen, and the lights went down, I knew this Spiderman movie is going to be a banger. The movie starts with Spiderman we all know: the lonely yet friendly neighborhood superhero who lives alone, saves the city every day and admires his love interest MJ from afar. This familiar beginning reminds the audience of Spiderman’s true character across every universe.

What makes this film amazing isn’t because of the crazy action or web-swinging; it’s because Peter Parker feels like an ordinary person instead of a typical superhero. His depression, grief, loneliness, and self-doubt are struggles that many people can relate to. Unlike “god-like” superheroes like Thor, Spiderman’s power is basically “keeps getting up”, and if you never watched a Spiderman movie before, this movie may change your definition of what a superhero really is: Early reactions keep giving the same point: “a character-driven story” that still delivers some of MCU’s best action in years. On Reddit, Jake Kleinmen commented “the best live-action Spiderman since Spiderman 2”, praising how the film focuses on Peter’s emotions instead of endless timelines.
But here’s the hot take: the movie’s better than the hype that’s already on social media. When I opened my socials, turns out a lot of reviews complained about the inconsistent trailer, runtime and a messy third act.
“It felt like a Jean Grey movie for at least the last ⅓.”, Reddit comment by Muldrake42 .
The film’s 90% Rotten Tomatoes score shows general audiences also enjoyed the movie, but sadly some act like hypocrites on social media, for example a post in Facebook saying it’s “visually impressive but an overstuffed mess as Spider-Man 3 and Amazing Spider-Man 2”.

The surprising thing is: the villain turns out to be Bill Metzger from Damage Control, not just Jean Grey, a woman in a costume. I’m very surprised that in the third act, the main story is finally about helping the “villain”. Jean mirrors Peter’s isolation, while Metzger’s experiments show how the state weaponises fear of superpowered kids. This will shape future MCU stories, but the real impact is emotional: Brand New Day proves Spiderman works best when the stakes are personal, not cosmic.
So ship or skip? I’ll say: SHIP the movie, SKIP the pressure.
