At this point, I’m convinced the Vinsmoke family has infiltrated Toei Animation, you know, Sanji’s lovely relatives who also happen to hate his guts.

One Piece has been running for 28 years. Toei’s been animating it since 1999. With that kind of mileage, you’d expect them to know how to treat a legacy character. But apparently, muscle memory doesn’t apply to storytelling.
I’ve followed Sanji for over a decade. First impressions? Suit. Cigarette. Chivalry. The man had presence. I still shed tears over him when he knelt to Zeff. And when he was electrocuted half to death by Enel and stood still, words came out: “I was just about to ask… for a light…” that’s Sanji. Absolute icon.
He is not just my icon. With over 516 million manga copies printed worldwide, you’d think Toei wouldn’t have trouble remembering him for being one of the Straw Hat Pirates, rather than having a lighter or an apron be his entire existence.
Toei’s not just mishandling him; they’ve redesigned him for punchlines. The power? Gone. The depth? Who cares? He’s now a chef with curly eyebrows.
The way Toei treats Sanji isn’t just a fan conspiracy.
It’s become an entire subgenre of internet outrage. Fans are out here dropping full video breakdowns, complete with timestamps and receipts.
Whenever the anime adds filler, they hype Zoro up but sideline Sanji. Moments that should show his power or speed get skipped or watered down

Let’s talk about the Egghead group shot, a.k.a. the great Sanji vanishing act.

In the manga, clearly Sanji is in the back serving food as he always does. Zoro had two missing swords.
Now the anime. Zoro’s swords? Magically restored. Sanji? Gone. Not moved. Not blurred. Just erased, like Toei mindlessly sat on the layer and hit delete.
So let me get this straight. You saw missing swords and said, “urgent fix,” but looked at Sanji, and they think cutting him off was a good decision.
Let’s not forget the Bonney scene, the ‘big moment’ of Toei’s decision on throw Sanji’s into a big controversy by ‘accident.’

In the manga? Just a big brother looking at his little sister.
In the anime? Boom! Toei gives him heart-eyes for Bonney. Because apparently, this is “good writing” to make a grown man enchanted over a girl.
Yes, Sanji loves beautiful ladies. But the man has lines. And what is this?
Oda kept it clean. Toei saw a twelve-year-old and said, “Perfect setup for a punchline.”
That’s not just bad adaptation. It’s character defamation. For what? A punchline that doesn’t even land?
This goes beyond mischaracterization. This is erasure.
