What is it with artists and being perfectionists? Why can’t they stop when something is good enough? Why do they keep adding and adding until it’s worse off than before? I should be able to answer these questions since I’m a perfectionist, but I can’t. But maybe Naughty Dog studios can.
Why, oh why, did you go and make a perfectly fine game, then decide to mess it up by breaking apart said game, and then put it back together like a puzzle with half its pieces missing?

Last of Us Part I is considered a masterpiece in gaming. Part II isn’t as revered, with complaints of the story lacking, the main characters being women (really?!), and that the pacing was off. So Naughty Dog decides to create an update, where players can go through the game in chronological order, messing the pacing even further. (All the cut scenes are at the start of the game. What kind of madness is that?) To their credit, they did suggest to only play this mode after completing the original. Be we all know what people are like.
I feel sorry for those working on this update. Imagine thinking you are going to work on the next big hit, then find out your job is to pull apart a story that has already been out for years. It seems unfair to waste their time and talents on this. Why not use their skills for Part III, Uncharted, or a new game altogether?
And let’s not forget all the remakes and remasters. They feel like cash grabs, which makes sense from a business point of view. But what’s the point of this new update? It’s free, and I doubt a selling point for potential new players. If it was released within a year of the original, then great. Buy why now, when there are plenty of videos on YouTube already that show the events in order. Just watch that. You have to watch two hours of cutscenes before getting to the gameplay anyway.
Didn’t they learn from the backlash over the tv show’s second season? I guess Naughty Dog have been planning this for a while, otherwise I believe they’d think twice. The’d take one look at the reception of the show and go, “Nah”. Though probably more eloquently. The show messed with the order and pacing of the story, and it didn’t do it any good.
I guess there are benefits to this new mode existing. It’s free, people had jobs, and gives some re-playability. But that’s about it.
It really feels like just a waste of time and resources, taking away from the story Naughty Dog wanted to tell.
